You know this whole week was bullying week and since I always watch CNN for Andy Coopy and Larry King, I noticed how they totally focused a lot of attention for bullying. Did you catch the show where they had Kathy Griffin, Lance Bass, Wanda Sykes, etc and spoke about gay bullying and Larry really isn't much of an interviewer or very 'sensitive' especially when that one country star was saying how she is still being bullied-he could have asked her to elaborate or brought her back-he just ran over everyone and instead of everyone giving great opinions it was like a flash interview. The point to bringing awareness is cool and all but this all feels like this fad where we make it cool to care and we wear some color, buy a bracelet and then jump onboard of another train. For example the Obama election was a lot like a fad where voting was cool and now when we are really facing major shit and most people I know who were enthusiastic to vote in '08 are now unaware of a potential Republican takeover...

The point isn't necessarily to say ha you only care about this momentarily but like many causes I feel we aren't doing enough to prevent or educate on why these things are happening. If most people knew WHY we keep getting cancer as opposed to just updating our status updates or throwing money into donations, we might just be able to create legislations to protect us from everyday exposure to these things.

Same thing with bullying, most people just say let's end it as opposed to analyzing why people get bullied and the reasons that we ourselves condone in our everyday lives i.e gay jokes, reducing the GLBT community to a stereotype, basically by making fun of people because they don't live the life we are taught to live and therefore people feel the right to make fun of them because they are clowns/not human. The problem with bullying will always persist and will continue to happen if we don't understand the deeper complex issues, so as opposed to just wearing purple how about we actually care about these issues everyday in our lives?

These issues are not new at all and fad causes may seem like the only way to make people care but I wonder how you retain the same attention for a cause for an extended amount of time. I do not have the solutions, nor am I saying fad causes don't help but I just wish we actually cared all the time; then and only then can we find a solution....
